2019 LNA Landscape Excellence Awards Categories 

The Awards recognise individuals and businesses across a range of categories that reflect the shape of the modern landscaping industry. The Landscape Excellence Awards represent the very highest of achievement in workmanship, innovation and creativity in the industry, with entrants and winners able to leverage their involvement and gain new market exposure for their businesses. 

The Landscape Excellence Award categories are formulated and adjusted each year to reflect the feedback the LNA Admin Team receives from Members, Members of the Board and past entry patterns. In selecting these categories the LNA hopes to make the awards fair and equitable for all members and so they might enjoy healthy competition with their peers. 

Residential Construction

(a) up to $50,000

(b) $50,000 - $100,000

(c) $100,00 - $150,000

(d) $150,000 - $300,000

(e) $300,000 - $600,000

(f) Over $600,000

This category is for landscape construction involved with a single unit dwelling on one or more combined elements of land. This category also includes pool surrounds and landscape features such as brick, stone or timber retaining walls, feature or decorative paving, timber constructions including gazebos, pergolas etc, feature plantings, brick, stone or timber stairs, feature fences, screenings, water features, ponds, fountains etc, bridge/s or lighting. 

Residential Design and Construction

(a) Up to $75,000

(b) Over $75,000

The project must be both designed and constructed by the Contractor. This category is for landscape design and construction involved with a single swelling unit on one or more combined allotments of landscape design and construction involved with a single dwelling unit on one or more combined allotments of land. This category also includes pool surrounds and landscape features such as brick, stone or timber retaining walls, feature/decorative paving, timber stairs, feature fences, screenings, water features, ponds, fountains etc, bridge/s or lighting. 

Residential Design 

(a) up to 80m2

(b) 80m2 - 200m2 

(c) over 200m2 

This category is for landscape design involved with a single dwelling unit on one or more combined allotments of land. This category also includes pool surrounds, pools (in the context of the entire landscape) and landscape features such as brick, stone or timber retaining walls, feature/decorative paving, timber stairs, feature fences, screenings, water features, ponds, fountains and structures etc, bridge/s or lighting. 

Residential Maintenance 

(a) up to 400m2 

(b) 400m2 to 1000m2

(c) over 1000m2 

(d) Residential Multi Housing 

This category is for landscape maintenance at any single house or multi housing development/community residential dwellings. The contractor must have carried out a minimum of 12 months continuous total maintenance prior and up to the time of entry. Maintenance covers all aspects of maintaining the grounds including all decks and pathways, lawn health, edging, plant health, water features, pruning and mulching. 

Commercial & Civil Construction 

(a) Up to $250,000 

(b) $250,000 - $750,000

(c) $750,000 - $1million 

(d) $1million - $3million 

(e) Over $3million 

This category is for landscape construction around a commercial, industrial, all levels of Government or institutional buildings.  Apart from factories, shops and offices buildings, it may also include hospitals, schools, pedestrian plazas, street closures, malls and forecourt areas etc. It includes projects for major transport infrastructure and civil projects like road systems, rail systems, transport, bridges, airports, dams or waterways. This category also caters for public space areas of all types and may include soft and hard landscaping. This includes structural elements including detention basins and natural rehabilitation. Projects can be for landscape construction involved with areas that are designated as active or passive recreation and include sporting ovals, race courses, golf courses =, leisure parks, nature areas, fun parks, animal parks, etc. as well as the actual construction of such areas. This category may also include peripheral or supplementary landscaping to any of the aforementioned projects. It includes landscape construction involved in the development of play spaces specifically for children's play which encourages educational activities and stimulation. 

Commercial Maintenance 

(a) Commercial Parklands/ Open Spaces

(b) Commercial Resorts/ Retirement Communities/ Educational Campuses 

(c) Commercial Retail/ Business Parks 

This may include sporting facilities, race courses, golf courses, leisure parks, nature areas, fun parks, animal parks, hotels, educational campuses, retirement living, retirement villages, aged care, shopping centres, precincts, industrial and commercial offices.

These categories are where the contractor must have carried out a total maintenance for a minimum of 12 months continuously prior to and up to the time of entry.

Apprentice of the Year Parks & Gardens 

The nominee for this category should be in the final year of their apprenticeship and undertaking a landscape industry related course. A copy of the most recent TAFE results and an appropriate Head and Shoulders Photo must be submitted to assist the Judges.

Apprentice of the Year Construction 

The nominee for this category should be in the final year of their apprenticeship and undertaking a landscape industry related course. A copy of the most recent TAFE results and an appropriate Head and Shoulders Photo must be submitted to assist the Judges. 

Affiliate Trade Supplier of the Year & Affiliate Trade Service of the Year 

All Affiliate Supplier and Trade members are automatically entered into this award category. This award is a great way to recognise and reward good business practises, and acknowledge the support our Affiliate Supplier members provide to the industry. 

The businesses should have demonstrated exemplary business practise in the areas of:

  • Customer Service 
  • Quality products and product knowledge 
  • Effective point of sale and after sale service
  • Recognise and acknowledge good business practise in our Association 

Member votes determine the winner of this category. Voting is open to all LNA Landscape and Maintenance members in the form of a 3,2,1 system. Members are asked to cast their vote via an online voting system. Members will be advised by email when the voting is open. 

Landscape of the Year 

These awards recognise the best overall projects from the winning entries of the Landscape Construction (both residential and commercial), Maintenance (both residential and commercial) and Design. All winning entries in these categories become eligible to win the Landscape of the Year awards.
