A Message from the LNA President

Posted by LNA Master Landscapers Association on 13 September 2016

It is with deep regret that I announce on behalf of the LNA Board the resignation of our long-time Chief Executive Officer, Joanne Aquilina. Her time as CEO of the LNA has seen the association go from strength to strength and it is a testament to her sensational skills and personal qualities that the organisation has been able to thrive so brilliantly under her hands-on leadership.

Many of you would have met and worked with Jo at one of our many events and LNA initiatives over the years and would already know of her great personal warmth, vitality and her enthusiasm for both the LNA and the landscaping industry as a whole. Those of us on the Board and the wider LNA team have had the pleasure of working side by side with her and admire the devotion and energy she brings to every challenge she undertakes. One of Jo's biggest strengths is to be able to bring people together to help them to draw on their knowledge and expertise to implement their visions, champion their goals, and to see them come to fruition. When Jo commits to an objective she is tenacious. Her drive to see the LNA succeed, grow and evolve has been a large part of the association's great strides forward in recent years.

We are deeply grateful to Jo for the dedication and enthusiasm she has displayed during her tenure as CEO. The Board is also delighted that her unique skill-set, experience and knowledge will not be lost to the organisation. Jo has worked tirelessly and set very high standards for herself and the association that she is eager to see maintained so we are pleased to announce that Jo has generously agreed to accept a nomination to the LNA Board for the 2016/17 term.  Jo will continue to grow our burgeoning Corporate Partnership Program, to continue to offer her expertise on management of the LNA Brand, as well as to ensure a smooth transition to the new management team.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the LNA's achievements that Jo has been instrumental in helping to create and facilitate.  Below are just a few:

  • Re-branding of the LNA from the LCA
  • Raising the profile of the LNA and its members.  A large part of raising the profile of the LNA is reliant on the continued professionalism and standards of work produced by our members.
  • Growth in Membership,  2016 will see another 30% increase in membership. It is now at its largest size since the association was it was established
  • Realising a more robust financial platform for the LNA to allow for more ambitious undertakings and planning
  • The creation and launching of the new LNA Website
  • A cutting-edge social media presence for the LNA with accounts on hand-picked platforms, including Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Jo has also boosted the Google Plus and Houzz accounts, as well as launching Vimeo and YouTube channels.  . Our Instagram account has received accolades from the American Society of Landscape Architects and other significant international bodies and associations.
  • Improving the industry's night of nights the Landscaping Excellence Awards. This event is a unique opportunity for some of the very best in our industry to showcase their work to both their colleagues, the industry at large and a plethora of potential clients.
  • Working with the Board's Continued Professional Development Sub-Committee, Jo has designed and implemented the CPD program.
  • The establishment of the member rewards program that gives our members real exclusive savings on key industry products such as plants, waste services, gardening equipment and even vehicle purchases.
  • Stronger industry association relationships with the Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers (AILDM), the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA), as well as Landscaping New Zealand (LNZ). This creates more sharing of information leading to more opportunity for members
  • Living Cities Workshop the LNA are proud to have been a part of this initiative
  • Fundraising including the CEO Sleepout and the annual Green Industries Golf Day
  • The LNA Constitution,  Jo has worked hard to overhaul our current LNA Constitution which had not been fully revised since the conception of the organisation. We are hopeful that the members will adopt this new constitution at our upcoming Annual General Meeting.

However disappointed we are to see Jo leave the CEO position, Jo has always been very candid with us about her desire to launch her new landscaping business. We are extremely fortunate that Jo will continue to be a stakeholder in the industry and we wish her every success with her new venture which we are sure can only thrive as a result, if what she has achieved with the LNA is anything to go by.

Jo is leaving her position as CEO having guided the organisation to a position of modernity and excellent health. We are poised to continue our stellar growth and further the profile of the association and its members, as well as continuing the service of advocating for the interests of our members. The future for the LNA is bright and we are looking forward to the next stage in the organisation's progression.

Kind Regards

Matthew Leacy
LNA President
