Landscape professionals are integral to the delivery and creation of urban environments and in the greening of our cities. The advent of new technologies including specialist infrastructure re-vegetation, green roofs, green walls, edible gardens and environmental management and sustainability principles embedded in the regulatory controls means landscaping has a presence in the increasingly diverse sustainability of our cities . The anticipated increase in new and refurbishment works for residential single and multi-unit dwellings and civil construction is where we see major growth in our industry over the next 3-5 years. This has been further highlighted by the cabinet reshuffle of Malcolm Turnbull appointing Jamie Briggs Minister for Cities
Malcolm Turnbull has given cities a voice in his cabinet, with Jamie Briggs the Minister for Cities and the Built Environment, declaring urban planning a matter of quality of life.
"Historically the federal government has had a limited engagement with cities, and yet that is where most Australians live," Mr Turnbull said.
"It is where the bulk of our economic growth can be found. We often overlook the fact that liveable cities, efficient productive cities, the environment of cities, are economic assets."
