How to deal with difficult issues in the workplace

Sometimes we get so caught up in what we're doing at work that we don't take time to ask ourselves, or our manager, the question: is our workplace psychologically healthy and safe? 

We often deal with psychological health issues after they've manifested and become difficult to deal with. 

This doesn't have to be the case at your workplace; every workplace can provide a psychologically safe space.

SafeWork NSW has developed two short videos to help you build and improve psychological health in your workplace. 

SafeWork NSW Project Officer, Linda Moore, sits down with state inspector, Ian Firth to discuss the responsibilities that businesses have to their staff.

Ian talks about how psychological health risks should be treated in the same way that physical risks and hazards are with a focus on three key areas:

  1. Prevent
  2. Recover
  3. Intervene early

Ian discusses legal obligations: what you need to know if you're a manager, and what you can expect if you're a worker. 

He also talks about how to identify hazards and what can cause poor psychological health at work.

Psychological health and safety is something everyone can contribute to, so it's well worth sharing with staff across your workplace.
